“After
this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one
could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing
before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes
and were holding palm branches in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9)
The city of Baleguian is surrounded by large forests.
These woods, far from other humans, is the home of a native people that
goes by the name “the black people”. Their appearance is
similar to the aborigines in Australia, and they make their living by
hunting and fishing. They worship the spirits of their fathers, and if
they don’t they will be cursed by the same spirits they now
worship.
Prior to the revival meetings in Baleguian, the church that hosted the
meetings drove through town in a truck and advertised them with a
speaker. Among other things they told there would be praying for the
sick. Some from the black people heard about this, and several of them
therefore attended the meetings. They heard the gospel of Christ, and
they all got saved! My interpreter, who was a pastor, was enthused! He
kept repeating that this was a miracle! This was the first time anyone
from the black people attended a meeting, and the first time someone
from this people received Christ!
What grace from God to be allowed to harvest a people earlier unreached with the gospel!
After praying with people to salvation, it was time to pray for
sickness and other unmet needs. A mother from the black people came to
us with her son, a four or five year old. He had suffered from stomach
pain for some time, and no one had been able to help him. We prayed in
the name of Jesus, and the boy was momentarily healed. His mother
loudly expressed joy and excitement. The mother was also healed from
poor sight, and received normal eyesight!
The black people had lived in fear of evil spirits. They have now come
to faith in Jesus, who saves, sets people free from evil spirits and
heals. This people will one day stand before Christ with the other
tribes and people on earth and worship He who purchased them free!
